Can a full-size moving truck reach an Orinda home on a private road?

As of October 2026, Ontrack Moving® dispatches Orinda moves from its Hayward yard at 22950 Clawiter Rd (USDOT #2551548). Whether our moving truck reaches the door depends on the approach to the house. When it cannot pull up in front of the home, Ontrack Moving® commonly uses a shuttle, a smaller vehicle run between the house and the truck.

Check us before you book. Our California household goods license, CAL-T190721, is searchable under Household Movers on the Bureau of Household Goods and Services License Search. On FMCSA SAFER, USDOT #2551548 shows Ontrack Moving LLC as a carrier authorized to haul household goods, at 22950 Clawiter Rd, Hayward (snapshot dated October 25, 2026), with a DOT inspection record that exceeds the national average.

How many Orinda homes sit on a private road?

1,605

homes

214

private streets

30.69

miles

Those are the City's printed totals on its Known Private Streets in Orinda table, revised September 16, 2024. The people who live on these roads keep them up, and the roads were often not built to city standards (City of Orinda Homeowner Guide).

You can live on one without knowing it. Private roads in Orinda are rarely gated, and the City says not to rely on street names or signs to tell. The table also leaves out driveways that serve several houses. Your title report should show any access easement that makes up a private road.

What happens when the truck cannot pull up to the house?

Ontrack Moving® commonly uses a shuttle when access is limited: your things are carried into a smaller vehicle and driven between the house and the parked truck. Before the estimate, we check the approach on Street View or during an on-site survey, so a shuttle can be planned before move day. A shuttle identified at the estimate is listed as its own line on the written estimate. Access conditions not described at the estimate can change the final charges, so describe the approach in full:

  • If your street is on the City's private street table, and who maintains it.
  • Where a moving truck could stop: in your driveway, on the road at the house, or only further away.
  • What limits the approach: a gate, a tight turn, overhanging branches, a driveway shared with neighbors.
  • If your street is on the Red Flag parking list below.

Which Orinda streets lose their parking on Red Flag Warning days?

Twelve stretches of road. While a Red Flag Warning is in effect, the City of Orinda prohibits stopping and parking on them and treats them like a fire lane: vehicles parked there during the first Red Flag event each year get warnings, after that, citations. On El Toyonal and Loma Vista Drive the restriction covers both sides, within 5 feet of the edge of the paved roadway (City of Orinda Red-Flag Parking Restrictions).

  • Miner Road, Camino Pablo to Honey Hill Road
  • El Toyonal, Camino Pablo to Vista del Orinda
  • Loma Vista Drive, entire length
  • Vista Del Mar, entire length
  • Monte Vista Road, Camino Pablo to Monte Vista Ridge Road
  • Claremont Avenue, Camino Pablo to the second western Holly Lane intersection
  • Manzanita Drive, Camino Pablo to Bobolink Road
  • Camino Don Miguel, eastern portion, Miner Road to Vista del Mar
  • Sleepy Hollow Lane, western leg, Lombardy Lane to the Normandy Lane and Washington Lane intersection
  • Lombardy Lane, Miner Road to Tarry Lane
  • Honey Hill Road, Miner Road to Charles Hill Road
  • Charles Hill Road, Honey Hill Road to El Nido Ranch Road

The City allows five minutes of active loading and unloading. A household load takes hours. Red Flag Days are declared by the National Weather Service, and the Fire Chief may also declare one in response to an extreme hazard (City of Orinda Red Flag Warnings); the City says notices generally go out "until further notice". If your street is on this list, check the National Weather Service California Fire Weather page in the days before your move date, and tell us at the estimate that your street is on it. On a Red Flag day, Ontrack Moving® follows the City’s rules and stops the truck only where the City allows stopping that day.

Three to six bedrooms: what changes on a larger Orinda move?

Orinda homes typically have three to six bedrooms, and at that size the packing plan matters as much as the truck. Two Ontrack Moving® packers typically take 6 to 8 hours to pack a three-bedroom house. From four bedrooms up, we may recommend packing over two days before the move, so the boxes are done before loading starts. If the closing dates do not line up, the household can sit in storage at the Hayward yard until the next house is ready. Leaving California? Out-of-state moves are quoted after a survey of the house, in person or on video, through our long-distance moving service.

Private roads, Red Flag days and packing: Orinda answers

It can be. The City of Orinda says not to rely on street names or signs to decide whether a road is private, and its private roads are rarely gated. Check your street against the City's Known Private Streets table and your title report, then describe the road to Ontrack Moving® at the estimate.

Only for five minutes of active loading or unloading. While a Red Flag Warning is in effect, the City of Orinda prohibits stopping and parking on Miner Road from Camino Pablo to Honey Hill Road and on eleven other listed stretches, including El Toyonal and Loma Vista Drive. The first Red Flag event each year brings warnings, later ones bring citations. On a Red Flag day, Ontrack Moving® stops the truck only where the City allows stopping that day.

Two Ontrack Moving® packers typically take 6 to 8 hours to pack a three-bedroom house. For homes of four bedrooms or more, we may recommend packing over two days before the move, so the packing is finished ahead of loading. Collections, libraries and fragile items add time, and we assess them during the quote.

Start with the Ontrack Moving® guide to how much movers cost, which shows how Bay Area local moves are billed by the hour against a minimum. Your Orinda estimate then adds what your house needs, such as packing or a shuttle line. Final charges will be based on actual labor time, materials used, access conditions, scope changes, waiting time, and any additional services requested or required to complete the move.

Moving in Moraga instead?

Ontrack Moving® moves Moraga households too, from the same Hayward yard, and has handled office moves for Saint Mary's College of California in Moraga.

Planning a clear-out before the move? The Town of Moraga requires an encroachment permit for temporary use of a public street, such as placing and picking up a trash dumpster, and points you to its Engineering Department at 329 Rheem Boulevard; a deposit may be required (Town of Moraga FAQs).
