Alameda Movers for Island Homes and Apartments

Ontrack Moving® moves Alameda households on the main island and Bay Farm Island with company-owned trucks out of our Hayward yard. We are the carrier, not a broker, so the company that writes your estimate is the company that loads your truck.

What should you line up before an Alameda home move?

As of October 2026, Ontrack Moving® advises Alameda households to line up three things early: City of Alameda No Parking signs (apply at least 2 business days ahead, and the City counts only Monday through Thursday as business days), your building's elevator or HOA move rules, and a written estimate. Ontrack Moving® is the carrier, not a broker: USDOT #2551548, rated 4.9/5 from 2,847+ reviews.

The signs take the longest. The City of Alameda wants the application at least 2 business days before the signs go up, counts only Monday through Thursday as business days, and requires the signs posted and verified by Alameda Police at least 48 hours before the restriction (City of Alameda No Parking Sign rules, revised August 2025). Ontrack Moving® carries a DOT inspection record that exceeds the national average, which anyone can check on FMCSA SAFER.

What makes moving a home in Alameda different?

Alameda is an island city, and the move starts with how the truck gets on and off it. Road traffic between Oakland and the main island runs through the Webster Street and Posey Tubes, one in each direction, or over the Park Street, Fruitvale (Miller-Sweeney) and High Street bridges, as the City's own Estuary Crossing Study lists them. Ontrack Moving® plans which crossing to use from your address and the time of day, and schedules around peak commute hours when it can.

The second difference is the curb. On a street with meters, the City's rules call for one City-issued No Parking sign per meter post. On an unmetered street the signs go every 18 to 20 feet, and they cannot be placed in red, green or blue curb zones. The sign fee follows the City's Master Fee Schedule and is non-refundable, and the sign application is not an encroachment permit, so it does not allow materials or equipment to be stored in the street or on the sidewalk.

The third is the building. Apartment and condo buildings and HOAs often set move windows, elevator reservations and certificate of insurance requirements. Send them to us with your booking and we work to them. Moving a business rather than a household? Our Alameda office movers page covers that.

How do you plan an Alameda move, step by step?

Count back from move day. The City's sign deadlines run on Monday to Thursday business days, so a weekend or Monday move needs the paperwork done earlier in the week before. For a Monday restriction, the City requires the signs to be up by the end of the prior Thursday.

1. Get a written estimate

An on-site or virtual walkthrough of your rooms, stairs, elevator and parking. The estimate states the crew size, how the move is billed and what is included before you book.

2. Settle the curb and the building

Decide where the truck stands. If it needs public curb space, apply to Alameda Public Works for No Parking signs (by appointment, application and rules here). Ask your building or HOA for its move window and certificate of insurance wording.

3. Post the signs and get them verified

Signs go up at least 48 hours ahead, attached with twine, masking tape or cinch ties, never duct tape, nails or staples. Then schedule Alameda Police verification. The City states that unverified signs are invalid and parking control cannot respond to a tow request.

4. Move day

A foreman supervises the crew. Floors get Neoprene runners, tile and marble entries get Masonite boards, doorways get padded corner guards and banisters get wraps. Furniture is pad-wrapped, upholstery is shrink-wrapped, and what we take apart we put back together at the new address.

What does Ontrack Moving® charge for a local Alameda move?

As of October 2026, Ontrack Moving® bills local Bay Area moves by the hour, at these starting rates:

CrewStarting rateMinimum
Two movers and a truck$175 per hour3 hours
Three movers and a truck$235 per hour3 hours
Four movers and a truck$295 per hour4 hours

The crew size comes from the walkthrough, not from a guess on the phone. Packing materials are billed separately from the hourly rate, and any No Parking sign fee is set by the City, not by us.

Final charges will be based on actual labor time, materials used, access conditions, scope changes, waiting time, and any additional services requested or required to complete the move.

What should you ask any Alameda mover before you book?

These are the questions that separate a carrier from a call center. Ask them of us, and of anyone else you are comparing.

  • Are you the carrier or a broker? A broker sells your move to whichever truck it finds. Ask for the USDOT number and look it up yourself.
  • Do you hold a California household goods license? Ours is CAL-T190721, searchable at search.dca.ca.gov.
  • How is the move billed, in writing? Hourly with a minimum, or a flat rate, and what is included.
  • What valuation options cover my belongings? They should be set out in your written estimate.
  • Where will the truck park, and who arranges the No Parking signs? On a tight Alameda street this decides how long the carry is.
  • Can you send a certificate of insurance to my building or HOA? Ask before move day, not on it.

How to read a mover's FMCSA SAFER record

Open FMCSA SAFER and search the USDOT number. Check three lines: Entity Type (a mover should read CARRIER), Operating Authority Status (look for authority for household goods), and the Inspections table, where each out-of-service rate sits next to the national average. Ontrack Moving® is USDOT #2551548, listed as a carrier, with a DOT inspection record that exceeds the national average.

Signs go up at least 48 hours before the restriction and must be verified by Alameda Police, or they cannot be enforced. Tell Ontrack Moving® at the estimate where the truck can stand, so the sign dates can be planned around move day.
